Anger & Aggression

Since 2019, when I wrote my first poem about mental health, I have sought solace and catharsis in being creative about sharing my struggles surrounding mental health.

As I discussed in my last post, I have previously found it incredibly difficult talking about emotionally challenging things, it almost feels like a fog descends inside my brain and suddenly I can literally become lost for words.

I am doing all I can to getting better at this; since I discovered the “Radical Faeries” last summer, when Beau took me to my first faerie gathering, which was nestled in the Welsh countryside, where I discovered the concept of “heart shares.”

In the community of the Radical Faeries, a heart share is where everyone is gathered in a circle to be seen and heard by the community. Many things come up during a heart share, past traumas, current anxieties, insecurities, among a plethora of other things.

What is most important though, is that you are encouraged to be brave, speak from the heart and share what is bothering you, if this leads to an emotional purge, great these pent up emotions are better out than in.

Since participating in a few of these and being in this relationship now for a just over a year, I’ve found that it is getting easier to speak about emotionally challenging topics and to not feel ashamed about sharing my trauma, learning from it and using it as a catalyst for positive change and growth in life.

On my journey over this the past week or two, I’ve also learned the importance of releasing blocked emotions, having cried pretty much every day this week, during and after the “letting go” and “loving your inner child” meditations I’ve been doing, I feel I’ve definitely made good headway in this regard.

Writing, performing, recording, editing and being creative with this poem has been a culmination of this work taking place and is a continuation of my journey to explore the possibility of overcoming battles with mental health, by using it as a creative outlet.

This can in turn offer hope and inspiration to others that ones bringing up ones trauma, sitting with the pain and letting go of it, instead of carrying this burden around with you is actually a very positive, important and healing thing to do, as it leads to growth.

The negative energy that comes up can be transmuted, by channelling it into something positive and using it as a source of inspiration doing good in the world, as I’m endeavouring to do with this campaign.

I’m truly hoping to be able to launch a podcast, where I can interview people about their mental health journey, in a peer to peer support setting, so we can learn and grow to overcome our struggles together and inspire others that they can do the same, but to do so I’m going to need a bit of help.

So please, if this resonates with you and you feel inspired that you would like to have a chat, or perhaps discuss getting involved, please feel free to get in touch.

Many thanks, have a healing and peaceful day. May peace, love and positive vibes be with you.
